Genre Research: Horror
There are many elements that are used to make up the genre of horror. A common lighting technique used in horror is silhouette, where the main object is dark while the background remains visible. Another common lighting technique is spotlighting, where a light is put onto an object to illuminate and signify it. A last common lighting technique is low- key lighting where shadows in the scene are highlighted. A common angle in horror is a high angle, where the camera is pointed down at the subject. Another common angle is a tilted angle, where the camera is set at an angle to the side. A last common angle in horror is a low angle, where the camera is looking up at the subject. A common camera movement is a tilt, where the camera tilts up and down. Another common camera movement is a pan shot, where the camera moves left and right. Some common Mis-En-Scene in horror are clown costumes, dark eye makeup and pale faces. One of the mainly used Mis-En-Scene are dark or abandoned houses. Some example films of horror are The prodigy, Orphan, and The disappointments room. A common sound in horror is screaming this is used widely in this genre. Another common sound in horror is suspenseful music. There are many things that people like and dislike about the horror genre. One thing we liked were the mystery that comes with most horror movies where they are searching for a cause and a solution. Another thing we liked was the threat or main villain of the movies because they are what create the entire story line and usually have a story of their own. One thing we disliked about this genre were the jump scares because these are the parts most people feel the most fear. Another thing we disliked about this genre were the suspenseful scenes because these eventually lead up to the jump scares. One last thing we dislike about the horror genre are the characters that get possessed by the main demonic entity.
