Convention Research: The last 3 minutes

 


this short film was about the last three minutes of a man’s life. It is a drama that features a series of cuts, natural lighting, and non-diegetic music almost throughout the entire thing. The scene begins with low key lighting and a long shot to show the entire scene. That is common when a film starts just to show the audience what the scene looks like. Throughout the entire film, there is hardly any dialogue or spoken words at all. 

Some angles used in the film are low angles, high angles, profiles, and even dutch angles which aren’t too common in dramas. For example, a low angle is used at the start when the man clutches his chest. This is showing that he is a victim of the circumstance he in. He is weak and essentially powerless because there is no one around to help him. Also, most of the scenes are filmed in from the point of view of the subject. As the man’s life is flashing before his eyes, his memories are in first person.

The lighting used were mostly natural lighting. There was low key lighting at the start, and in some scenes three point lighting, but for the most part, the lighting was delivered naturally by sources in the settings rather than by the set. 

The costuming and settings of this film differed from each part of the man’s life. For example, during the scene of the baseball game, it took place on the field and the people were wearing their uniforms. There was also the battlefield scene. You can assume that the subject was wearing his army uniform because they were on a battlefield.

One likable aspect of this short film was how it took place in first person. It made a lot of sense because it really showed how the man was recounting his entire life during his final 3 minutes. There wasn’t anything not to like about this film with the exception of the beginning where the man was on the phone. It just seemed like an unnecessary detail added because it wasn’t really made clear as to why that man was part of the scene.

  I started filming this blog on Friday, October 30th, 2020 when my mother and I went out. I figured that since we were taking the car, I could use that chance to film some of the interior features of the car that would be showcased. Because I needed my dad for most of the other shots, I waited till the weekend to continue the filming. That Sunday, on the 31st, I didn't have the chance to go out so I decided to film the 360 view of the car that would be used in the opening of the commercial. Title Research: Glass

Art of the Title The opening sequence shows the production company in charge of the film. It shows the company that works with distributing the movie. Then it shows the title of the film. The film then starts to show the actors playing in the movie. The sequence then starts to name the people who helped cast the film, as well as the director. It showed who was in charge of music, costuming, editing, photography, then the producers.  The opening sequence starts off with a recap. this film is a sequel, so it begins by introducing the main character of the original. Later on, it introduces some of the other characters. It builds the moment by showing background events that lead to the appearance of the next potential main character.  The first clip of the man speaking to the girls can allow us to assume that the man has some sort of psychological disorder. Genre Research: Final Choice

  Out of all three of the genres chosen, we decided to finally go with Drama. The reason for this choice is that a drama is simply more flexible than the others. There are so many aspects to a film that can make it be considered as a drama. On the other hand, Horror and Comedy have a big more restraint. When making a horror film, there has to be some element that “scares” the audience. Whether it is actually scary or not isn’t the point, but whether it creates a chilling atmosphere. It just didn’t really seem to fit into the prompt of our short film. We don’t want the audience to be too distracted by “not getting scared” to the point where they miss the message we are trying to send. Comedy was a little more close than horror, but again, it didn’t seem to match our story. The main purpose of comedic films is to have the audience laughing.
